St Phil’s Editorial – 11 Jan 2020

The year has kicked off, and it is hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through January already. I hope and pray that you have had a wonderfully refreshing start to 2020.

News of bushfire, damage and destruction and even death has been on the forefront of many of our minds. It is a timely reminder that more than ever, we are always humbly living out of the gracious hand of our God. We remind ourselves from Scripture that if God is for us, then who or what could stand against us (Romans 8)? And that at all times, God is our strength and refuge (Psalm 46).

So it is from this state and understanding that we begin our year. God-willing, it is an attitude that will always be with us. May I encourage you that even when the threat of physical danger and inconvenience recedes from our view, please never may our vision of Christ be lost.

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
