St Phil’s Editorial – 3 May 2019

On Sunday we begin our annual mission series. This year we are especially looking at Mission in Australia. Each week we will explore different aspects of mission in our great country, considering how we as a church can be more prayerful and more involved in God’s mission.

This week we are joined by Craig Roberts, the CEO of Youthworks. We are always seeking ways to partner in mission with Youthworks especially as they seek to see effective youth and children’s ministry in churches such as St Phils.

There are many pragmatic reasons why children and youth are important to us and our church. However, the most important reason they are valued is because they are precious to Jesus!

[Jesus] called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Matthew 18:1-5)

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court. (Psalm 127:3-5)

Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. (Proverbs 17:6)

So we pray that you benefit greatly by Craig encouraging us from God’s word this week.

Yours in Christ,
